WordPress Leeds – 24th May 6pm15th May 2016, 09:54 | Steph
What’s on this month?
This month we have two speakers, Sue Fernandes and Tom Wade
Sue Fernandes – The Genesis of Things: An Introduction to the Genesis Framework
An Introduction to Genesis, the WordPress theme framework which is developed by StudioPress. In addition to offering a large range of child themes which come with great tutorials for single site owners, Genesis can also be a valuable tool for Developers, allowing custom websites to be quickly and easily built on a solid, secure foundation.
Sue Fernandes is a freelance web developer based in Stockport, Cheshire who has been working with WordPress for the last 6 years. Sue designs and builds custom websites for clients using the Genesis theme framework and is a regular member of the Manchester WordPress User Group.
Tom Wade – Getting Flexible with theme development
ACF is a widely used WordPress plugin, making for extremely simple, user friendly content management in the WordPress backend beyond its default nature. It is one of the first plugins we install when it comes to theme development, saving countless hours per-project and works an absolute treat.
With the use of the Flexible Content addition I will aim to explore and explain the creation of designs that will not only be easier to code, but also be easier for the end-user to customise and have the freedom they want.
Although the talk is aimed at designers and developers this talk is open to anyone to give an insight into how themes can be developed. I will also be happy to answer any and all questions around ACF to the best of my ability!
After working at a small number of digital agencies in Leeds, Tom became a director at the creative digital agency SteadyGo. Working freelance since he could reach a keyboard, he specialised in WordPress development and all things PHP taking breaks only occasionally to play Softball and computer games.

Why not speak at our next event?
We are always looking for folks to come and speak at our events. So if you have an idea for a talk, a discussion or just want to show folks what you have been working on get in touch. You don’t need to be a professional speaker or even to have spoken in a group before. If you don’t want to do a talk, but are interested in hearing about a specific subject, or have an idea/problem then why not also get in touch.
